Let us come together to recite the O Antiphons, a Roman Catholic tradition that dates back to the 8th century.
These ancient and sacred verses, prayed during the Liturgy of the Hours at Vespers (Evening Prayer), call upon Christ with titles from Scripture that reflect His divine attributes and fulfill the prophecies of the Old Testament. Each antiphon begins with the exclamation “O”—such as O Wisdom, O Key of David, and O Emmanuel—leading us on a reflective and prayerful journey as we prepare our hearts for the coming of Christ at Christmas.
These beautiful prayers, full of longing and hope, not only deepen our Advent experience but also inspire contemplation of the mystery of the Incarnation. Let us unite in spirit and voice during these final days of Advent, as we anticipate the joy and peace of the Nativity.
A heartfelt thank you to Sister Ann Therese Kelly for her stunning stained-glass pieces, each portraying an O Antiphon.
