Joyful Servants

“We cannot create harmony alone. A community creates harmony together and such harmony creates joy!”

Sr. Judith Kubicki, Provincial Minister

The Felician Sisters of North America are part of a joyful international community of vowed women religious who lead contemplative-active lives of service.

“Jesus wants us to serve Him
with a joyful heart!”

Blessed Mary Angela

Watch Why are Felician Sisters so joyful?

Our Foundress, Blessed Mary Angela Truszkowska — Sophia — was a young woman born into privilege in 19th Century Poland. She witnessed the impact of political unrest in Warsaw — where society’s most vulnerable had been abandoned.

Sophia followed God’s will, not society’s rules, to care for women and orphans. Inspired by St. Francis of Assisi, she called on her sisters to live as he lived — turning away from worldly comforts to follow God’s call to a joyful life of simplicity, prayer and service.

Since their arrival in North America in 1874, the Felician Sisters continue to joyfully serve those forgotten by society and to expand their ministries to meet the needs of the time.

Felician Mission: Haiti

In 2010, an earthquake devastated Haiti. Felician Sisters responded with compassion, solidarity, and commitment to human dignity for all. Since then, our mission has worked to empower the resilient Haitian people with initiatives to provide clean water, access to health care, education, and the job skills needed to strengthen their country.

Serving where needed since 1874

Founded in Poland in 1855, the Felician Sisters are a congregation of women religious inspired by the spiritual ideals of their foundress, Blessed Mary Angela Truszkowska, and Saints Francis of Assisi, Clare of Assisi and Felix of Cantalice. Arriving in North America in 1874 following Blessed Mary Angela’s directive “to serve where needed,” they helped to weave the social service system. Today, the Felician Sisters founded, sponsor or support through the presence of our sisters, more than 40 ministries – all continuing to evolve to meet the needs of the people they serve.
