Reflection: What steps can you take to protect the vulnerable and recognize the signs of exploitation?
As we welcome 2026 and consider New Year’s resolutions, it is an excellent opportunity to join the Felician Sisters and commit to one—or more—actions you can take to help stop human trafficking this year.
Praying for the victims and survivors of human trafficking, and for their loved ones and families, as well as for the conversion of the traffickers and perpetrators, is a powerful action we can all take.
Arranging a prayer service on January 11, National Human Trafficking Awareness Day, or at any time, is also a powerful way to raise awareness of the issue.
What else can we do?
• Join a state or national coalition that works to end human trafficking. Learn how both sex and labor trafficking occur in your area, recognize the warning signs, and discover ways to protect the most vulnerable. Share this knowledge with friends and coworkers.
• Educate yourself and your family about online grooming. Children and adults can be groomed on social media and other platforms. Take measures to ensure your children, teens and yourself know how to recognize traffickers’ recruitment tactics and how to navigate suspicious or uncomfortable situations safely. Emphasize that your children and teens can always reach out to you for help.
• Be a conscious consumer. Many products are made with child or forced labor. Download the Sweat and Toil app to better understand which goods are produced with child and/or forced labor around the world.
• Raise awareness around major events. The FIFA World Cup will be hosted in various cities in 2026. Learn about local initiatives to prevent both labor and sex trafficking connected with this event.
May this be the year that we all keep our resolutions and do what is ours to do to end human trafficking!
