About Arthur Moats

Former Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker and 9-year NFL Veteran, Arthur Moats, is a two-time nominee for the NFL’s Walter Payton Man of the Year Award, with both the Buffalo Bills and the Pittsburgh Steelers, for his volunteer and charity work in the community. In 2013, he was the Buffalo Bills’ recipient of the Ed Block Courage Award which is given to a NFL player from each team who exemplifies the commitments to the principles of sportsmanship and courage. He and his wife, Shonda, support JMU Athletics and recently established an endowed scholarship in the studio arts. McGuire Memorial opened its doors and heart to individuals with profound, complex disabilities over half a century ago. Founded on the belief that every life is sacred, McGuire Memorial rededicates itself each day to this founding belief — to encourage every individual we serve to live life to the fullest by providing new opportunities, skills, and experiences. As a leader in providing person-centered care, McGuire Memorial offers residential programs, education, vocational training, and life enrichment activities to all who have been entrusted in our care, as well as supportive services to families and caregivers.
