Members of the Felician Community

Our supporters and friends are part of our Felician community: alumni and parents from our schools and childcare centers; those who journeyed with us through hospice care or experienced assisted living; and those who received assistance in our ministries, met us in parishes or on retreats, volunteered beside us, or supported our work financially. We love it when you submit “Sister Stories” to let us know how a Felician Sister touched your life.

My One and Only

My aunt, †Sr. Angela Marie Holewinski, was a Felician for 75 years. I once told her how special the rosaries she gave me were. She laughed and asked if I knew how many she had given. I said no but…

In the 1940s, my brother and I attended St. Mary Catholic Church and school in Lafferty, OH. The Felician Sisters were our teachers and we have fond memories of them. †Sr. Mary Theophane Zakrzewski, †Sr. Mary Amata Wachowski, †Sr. Mary…

A Positive Attitude

I can’t tell you how indebted I am to the sisters who taught me at Villa Maria Academy in Buffalo. They were instrumental in instilling a positive attitude in me toward my Catholic faith and their expert instruction prepared me…

Mary’s Shrine

When I was a student at St. Turibius School, my 2nd grade teacher, †Sr. Mary Danielitta Lewandowski, had us make May Altars. I was staying with my aunt, uncle and cousins because my mother was hospitalized after breast cancer surgery.…

Adventures with My Aunt

A Strong Foundation

I was taught by the Felician Sisters from grammar school through high school at St Joseph’s parish in Camden, NJ. All the sisters I encountered had a definite impact. Sr. Theresine taught me physics and encouraged me to go into…

Angel of Giving

Thirty years ago, I was given a beautiful angel for our family Christmas tree by Sister Mary Jendras, a member of the Felician Sisters. She and I worked together at the time at St. Francis Hospital on Milwaukee’s south side.…

Serving where needed since 1874

Founded in Poland in 1855, the Felician Sisters are a congregation of women religious inspired by the spiritual ideals of their foundress, Blessed Mary Angela Truszkowska, and Saints Francis of Assisi, Clare of Assisi and Felix of Cantalice. Arriving in North America in 1874 following Blessed Mary Angela’s directive “to serve where needed,” they helped to weave the social service system. Today, the Felician Sisters founded, sponsor or support through the presence of our sisters, more than 40 ministries – all continuing to evolve to meet the needs of the people they serve.
