Catholic Sisters Week

March 8-14, 2025

Catholic Sisters Week has long been a time to celebrate the profound contributions of women religious in education, healthcare and advocacy. This year, in response to the pressing social justice challenges of our time, the Felician Sisters of North America are embracing a new vision—shifting Catholic Sisters Week from celebration to awareness.

Our focus will be on raising awareness of the life-saving mission of Águilas del Desierto — Eagles of the Desert. This initiative invites our entire community to participate in meaningful education and reflection.

Águilas rescues migrants in distress in the desert along the U.S.-Mexico border or brings closure to families by locating the body of a loved one. Recognized experts in this difficult work, they find women, men and children during their searches.

Throughout Catholic Sisters Week, an interactive Águilas del Desierto awareness display will be set up in each convent.

Serving where needed since 1874

Founded in Poland in 1855, the Felician Sisters are a congregation of women religious inspired by the spiritual ideals of their foundress, Blessed Mary Angela Truszkowska, and Saints Francis of Assisi, Clare of Assisi and Felix of Cantalice. Arriving in North America in 1874 following Blessed Mary Angela’s directive “to serve where needed,” they helped to weave the social service system. Today, the Felician Sisters founded, sponsor or support through the presence of our sisters, more than 40 ministries – all continuing to evolve to meet the needs of the people they serve.
