Angela Cares: Cooking For One

April 5 @ 2:00 pm 4:00 pm EDT

Free

The Angela Cares educational speakers series seeks to empower community members by engaging them in topics that are both practical and intriguing. Our goal is to share insight that will help individuals as they navigate unfamiliar – and yet, not uncommon – experiences related to end of life, grief, health, wellness, spirituality, and family dynamics.

When someone dies, loved ones may suddenly find themselves taking on new responsibilities. Cooking might be one of them. But even those who have been cooking for years may need to adjust when they begin living alone. Learn cooking techniques and tips – and try recipes – from a past contestant from the TV show Chopped, chef Allie Lyttle. This in-person seminar is presented as part of the Angela Cares series.

About Chef Allie Lyttle:
Allie Lyttle is the owner of Lala’s & Lala’s Too, currently located in Brighton, Michigan. Allie started at 18 years old when she was in nursing school and ended up leaving her program to pursue her dream of becoming a Chef. Allie has had the pleasure of working all over Ann Arbor & Detroit, mostly notably Zingerman’s Roadhouse, Zingerman’s Cornman Farms, Parks & Rec Diner and BonBonBon. She most recently became the Executive Chef at The Standard Bistro & Larder in 2019 and once the pandemic happened they decided they needed to pivot to better serve their community and the idea of Lala’s was born – an elevated comfort food spot with a fresh & funky menu that rotates often and helps folks expand their culinary mind. She decided to branch out on her own and open Lala’s Too, an elevated comfort food grab and go destination, while looking for the perfect location to reopen Lala’s, the restaurant. Fun facts: She is a collector of vintage pyrex and lover of bourbon, coffee, and salt. She doesn’t remember her natural hair color anymore and has more cookbooks than most libraries.

Serving where needed since 1874

Founded in Poland in 1855, the Felician Sisters are a congregation of women religious inspired by the spiritual ideals of their foundress, Blessed Mary Angela Truszkowska, and Saints Francis of Assisi, Clare of Assisi and Felix of Cantalice. Arriving in North America in 1874 following Blessed Mary Angela’s directive “to serve where needed,” they helped to weave the social service system. Today, the Felician Sisters founded, sponsor or support through the presence of our sisters, more than 40 ministries – all continuing to evolve to meet the needs of the people they serve.
