Blessed Mary Angela Truszkowska, born Sophia Camille in 1825, dedicated her life to serving the needy in Poland. Founding the Felician Sisters in 1855, she blended contemplative and active roles in religious life. Her enduring legacy of compassion continues to inspire. She passed away peacefully on October 10, 1899.

Felician Founder’s Day

On November 21, 1855, in Poland, Mother Mary Angela Truszkowska consecrated herself to God and founded the Felician Sisters, a religious community dedicated to living out the ideals of St. Francis of Assisi.

Anniversary of the Beatification of Blessed Mary Angela Truszkowska (1993)

On April 18, 1993, Pope John Paul II beatified Mother Mary Angela, citing her profound love and care for the suffering. Her beatification followed the certified miracle of Lillian Halasinski’s cure from diabetic neuropathy in 1984, attributed to her prayers. The Felician Sisters are advancing her cause for canonization.

Serving where needed since 1874

Founded in Poland in 1855, the Felician Sisters are a congregation of women religious inspired by the spiritual ideals of their foundress, Blessed Mary Angela Truszkowska, and Saints Francis of Assisi, Clare of Assisi and Felix of Cantalice. Arriving in North America in 1874 following Blessed Mary Angela’s directive “to serve where needed,” they helped to weave the social service system. Today, the Felician Sisters founded, sponsor or support through the presence of our sisters, more than 40 ministries – all continuing to evolve to meet the needs of the people they serve.
