Closing Ceremony of 150th Anniversary Celebrations

A year of reflection, service and celebrations across North America

The Felician Sisters of North America concluded their historic 150th anniversary year with a beautiful and joy-filled closing celebration in Livonia, Michigan. The gathering marked the culmination of a year dedicated to reflecting on the Congregation’s legacy, honoring Blessed Mary Angela’s founding vision and recommitting to a future rooted in compassionate service.

Throughout the anniversary year, the Felician community engaged in a series of meaningful observances that highlighted the heart of their mission:

  • Former Province Celebrations commemorated the eight locations across North America and honored the five founding Sisters who arrived in Polonia, Wisconsin, in 1874, along with all who have followed in their faith and service.
  • A Day of Service honored the Sisters’ long tradition of responding to the needs of the dear neighbor. Across all regions, Sisters, Associates, volunteers, and ministry partners participated in acts of compassion, outreach, and community care.
  • A Day of Remembrance provided space to honor the countless Felician Sisters whose lives and ministries shaped 150 years of service in North America.
  • A Day of Gratitude invited Sisters, partners in ministry and friends to reflect on the blessings of the past and present. This included a special digital collection of gratitude submissions shared across the province.

The closing celebration in Livonia brought these themes together in a spirit of thanksgiving—recognizing the countless individuals who helped shape the Felician mission since the first Sisters arrived in Polonia, Wisconsin, in 1874.

Serving where needed since 1874

Founded in Poland in 1855, the Felician Sisters are a congregation of women religious inspired by the spiritual ideals of their foundress, Blessed Mary Angela Truszkowska, and Saints Francis of Assisi, Clare of Assisi and Felix of Cantalice. Arriving in North America in 1874 following Blessed Mary Angela’s directive “to serve where needed,” they helped to weave the social service system. Today, the Felician Sisters founded, sponsor or support through the presence of our sisters, more than 40 ministries – all continuing to evolve to meet the needs of the people they serve.
