After months of isolation, the Felician Center in Kingstree, South Carolina, kicked off their summer programming with a game night. After smiles and hugs from friends they had missed, the children enjoyed games of Yahtzee, Skip-BO, shuffleboard, badminton and cornhole.
They beat the heat with cold drinks, ice cream and a pizza to take home to share with their families. Each child also took home some games to enjoy over the summer. Director Sr. Mary Susanne Dziedzic said, “The joys were worth all the planning to welcome summer 2021.”
This event, which was funded by the Felician Services St. Francis Fund and Duke Energy, is part of the Center’s Beyond the Classroom learning series, which will continue throughout the summer through the sponsorship of week-long camps exploring science, cooking, art, math and reading. In addition, ten children are being sponsored to attend the Moore Botanical Camp in Lake City, South Carolina, including garden exploration and a culinary camp.
Sr. Susanne said that putting the pandemic behind, but remaining cautious, the children will have many opportunities for “beyond the classroom learning.”
