When young women join the Felician Sisters of North America, they join an international congregation of vowed women religious. They also join an intercontinental community of Felician Sisters, encompassing provinces in Africa, South America, and Eastern Europe. Recently, through Zoom, these women have begun to connect on a global level — sharing their faith and forging friendships.
Director of Postulants for Our Lady of Hope Province in North America, Sr. Mary Victoria Richardson is delighted about this “historic” development. She remembers, “In the not-too-distant past, I did not even know other Felician Sisters in North America who were in my same group. Today, as our world gets smaller, we need to know our entire Felician global family. We have come a long way.”
The Cultural Diversity Team, led by Felician Sisters at the Generalate in Rome, invited all of the Felician postulant directors and postulants to a faith-sharing Zoom meeting in March, followed by a rosary in April. Postulant Veronica Kowalski said, “It was so much fun connecting with the other postulants about how the word of God touches and moves us as unique individuals. I could feel a uniting spirit. We are all daughters of Blessed Mary Angela!”
Monica Edaburn, another postulant, agreed: “I loved growing in connection with the other postulants in the congregation!” For Felician leadership, recognizing and celebrating the diversity of the congregation means investing in ways to connect sisters around the globe. As Sr. Victoria says, “These postulants are the future of our congregation.”
