Livonia, MI (June 26, 2023) – The Felician Sisters of North America are pleased to share a new plan for the historic Presentation of Blessed Virgin Mary convent in Livonia, MI. To continue being good stewards of their resources, the sisters have evaluated the western portion of its historic convent building in Livonia. In alignment with their ongoing mission of service, the convent is in the planning stages of being repurposed and considered to bring new senior housing to the community.

The potential for a future housing project within the Convent, located on the Felician Sister campus, was announced in June. Specific plans will be developed in the coming year.

The announcement follows a year-long research effort led by a working group including members of the City of Livonia, Felician sisters and ministry partners who focused on the needs of the community. The group’s final recommendation was to consider repurposing the western portion of the convent for senior living.

The eastern portion of the convent will continue to be the home of the Felician Sisters who reside and serve in the Livonia area.

The Felician Sisters were founded in Poland in 1855 and have faithfully served the Livonia area for more than 80 years through their ministries that today include higher education at Madonna University, preschool education at Montessori Center of Our Lady and St. Mary Child Care Center, a community for senior clergy at Senior Clergy Village, hospice care at Angela Hospice and skilled nursing care at Marywood Nursing Home.

“While we are in the early stages, we want the community to know that any proposed use of the convent will fulfill a community need in the greater Livonia area, where we have faithfully served for decades,” shared Sr. Janet Marie Adamczyk, Provincial Vicar, Felician Sisters of North America. “We prayerfully consider this opportunity through the lens of our organization’s values and look at ways to provide potential synergies with existing ministries on the campus,” continued Sr. Janet Marie. “We look forward to sharing more information as the plans are finalized.”
