Letter from Faith Communities to State Legislators on the Importance of New START

The Felician Sisters join faith leaders nationwide in urging Congress to pursue a new nuclear arms agreement before New START expires.

This letter outlines the Felician Sisters’ shared perspective and concerns on the nuclear arms race. Signed by diverse faith communities across the United States—including Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Buddhist, Hindu, Sikh, Indigenous, and Humanist traditions—it urges Congress to pursue a follow-on agreement to the New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (New START) before its expiration on February 5, 2026. While it was sent directly to state legislators, we are sharing it here to inform the public about our advocacy work and invite others to learn more or take action.

Serving where needed since 1874

Founded in Poland in 1855, the Felician Sisters are a congregation of women religious inspired by the spiritual ideals of their foundress, Blessed Mary Angela Truszkowska, and Saints Francis of Assisi, Clare of Assisi and Felix of Cantalice. Arriving in North America in 1874 following Blessed Mary Angela’s directive “to serve where needed,” they helped to weave the social service system. Today, the Felician Sisters founded, sponsor or support through the presence of our sisters, more than 40 ministries – all continuing to evolve to meet the needs of the people they serve.
