The Felician Sisters have taken a corporate stand on Appreciation for Diversity: From Othering to Reverencing All, in which we state:
“As women of the Gospel, we proclaim the mandate to reverence all human beings and all creation.”

Reflection

We recognize that people often view nature, God’s creation, as separate from ourselves. When we focus on the differences between ourselves and what we perceive as “other,” we can allow those differences to create distance. In doing so, we fail to recognize the interconnectedness of all God’s creation and may rationalize the misuse, overuse, waste and destruction of God’s gifts.

During this Season of Creation, join the global call to care for our common home. The Felician Sisters invite you to pray, reflect and take meaningful action to protect God’s creation.

Practical Actions for this Month:
  • Indigenous cultures often view humans as part of the entire ecosystem rather than its masters. Consider reading “Braiding Sweetgrass: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge and the Teachings of Plants” by Robin Wall Kimmerer, a beautiful reflection on the intrinsic beauty and value of all God’s creation.
  • View this YouTube video on the diversity of God’s creation.
  • Take time to reflect on one aspect of God’s creation that you may unintentionally “other.” What is one step you can take to deepen your sense of connection and reverence?
  • View this YouTube video and song “Everyday God” by Bernadette Farrell.
  • As we journey through this Season of Creation, let each of us take at least one intentional step from the Felician Sisters’ Laudato Si’ Action Plan to care for our common home.

Serving where needed since 1874

Founded in Poland in 1855, the Felician Sisters are a congregation of women religious inspired by the spiritual ideals of their foundress, Blessed Mary Angela Truszkowska, and Saints Francis of Assisi, Clare of Assisi and Felix of Cantalice. Arriving in North America in 1874 following Blessed Mary Angela’s directive “to serve where needed,” they helped to weave the social service system. Today, the Felician Sisters founded, sponsor or support through the presence of our sisters, more than 40 ministries – all continuing to evolve to meet the needs of the people they serve.
