Blue Light Vigil for Peace, Hope and Change

The Felician Sisters join a vigil of blue lights, offering a visible sign for meaningful change.

Beginning on February 2, the Feast of the Presentation of Our Lord (also traditionally called Candlemas), the Sisters of Divine Providence invited all people to place blue lights in street-facing windows each night as a sign of peace, protection and steadfast hope. These lights will remain burning until we see real change—until the dignity of every person is honored and peace shapes our common life.

The Felician Sisters are proud to join this vigil, keeping blue lights as a visible sign of solidarity, prayer and hope. In Beaver Falls, PA, where our campus sits far from the road and individual candles may not be easily seen, we have adapted the practice in a spirit of visibility and witness. A vigil candle burns in the small conference room, blue bulbs have been placed in the lanterns lining our driveway and strings of blue lights illuminate our front entrance all offering a clear and public sign of our commitment, visible from the street.

We invite you to reflect on how this vigil might be lived out in your own community—whether through candles, blue lights, or another visible sign appropriate to your setting. However it takes shape, we hope this shared witness will unite us in prayer for peace, hope and meaningful change.

Serving where needed since 1874

Founded in Poland in 1855, the Felician Sisters are a congregation of women religious inspired by the spiritual ideals of their foundress, Blessed Mary Angela Truszkowska, and Saints Francis of Assisi, Clare of Assisi and Felix of Cantalice. Arriving in North America in 1874 following Blessed Mary Angela’s directive “to serve where needed,” they helped to weave the social service system. Today, the Felician Sisters founded, sponsor or support through the presence of our sisters, more than 40 ministries – all continuing to evolve to meet the needs of the people they serve.
