The first Earth Day was held in 1970 and today it celebrates its 50th anniversary. The day is meant to call into awareness the need for the environmental protection of our planet. Today, Earth Day is celebrated in more than 190 countries.
Inspired by Pope Francis’ encyclical, On Care for Our Common Home, the Felician Sisters of North America have been carefully considering our impact on the earth and are taking steps to make changes and to learn more about the natural world in order to appreciate it more. Below are some ways you can join us:
- Consider using a refillable bottle from your tap or filtered water pitcher.
- Take a walk outside and spend time in nature, without headphones, listening, seeing . . . taking the world in with your senses. What creatures and plant growth do you see? Consider that we need to leave enough world for them to live in too.
