On Aug. 5, 2020, Angela Maloney, President and CEO of the Catholic Foundation of Michigan, presented a check for $10,000 from over 500 different donors to the Felician Sisters of North America. Sr. Mary Andrew Budinski, local minister at the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Convent in Livonia, Michigan, accepted the check on behalf of her community.
Angela Maloney is a graduate of Madonna University, which is a ministry of the Felician Sisters of North America. When she heard of the passing of 13 Sisters in the Livonia convent from COVID-19, she felt compelled to act. She reached out to ask the Sisters for their blessing and assistance with the establishment of a fund in support of the Felician Sisters of North America in Livonia.
Finding themselves in the unusual position of receiving help instead of providing it, the Sisters were humbled by her offer and agreed to accept the Foundation’s generous offer.
“This opportunity affords us much more than financial support,” said Sr. Mary Christopher Moore, provincial minister. “It will allow us to share the mission and ministries of the Felician Sisters of North America with an expansive and diverse audience with the hope of inspiring others to answer the call to serve in the spirit of Blessed Mary Angela. After all, it is her love and charism that we share in our encounters with those we serve and those we serve alongside.” She added, “Though we did not seek it out, we are grateful for this generous support of our Sisters and their continued ministry to our communities.”
