150th Anniversary Poland Pilgrimage

Pilgrims followed in Blessed Mary Angela’s footprints through Poland, deepening faith and connection during this 150th anniversary journey.

10 Koscielna Street: It was here, on November 21, 1855, that Sophia—together with her cousin Klotylda—made an offering of their lives to God, an act considered the founding of the Felician Sisters.

The Poland Pilgrimage was a memorable journey for all who took part. Pilgrims walked in the footprints of Blessed Mary Angela, deepening their connection to her life and legacy while visiting holy sites in Warsaw, Kraków, and Częstochowa. Along the way, they experienced the beauty of Poland’s rich Catholic heritage and the warm hospitality of the Felician Sisters, both from North America and Poland.

Sr. Mary Inga Borko, who curated the 9-day pilgrimage with Sr. Marilyn Marie Minter, also served as the expert guide and translator. Sr. Marilyn led daily prayer and worship, enriching the experience. We are also grateful to Sr. Mary Bernadette Kapfer, Sr. Mary Bridget Becker, Sr. Mary Carol Piskor, Sr. Judith Marie Blizzard, Sr. Maryann Agnes Mueller, and Sr. Mary Victoria Richardson, who contributed through readings, singing and assistance during the daily liturgies.

This pilgrimage was not simply a trip overseas—it was an intentional journey of faith, offered in celebration of the 150th anniversary of the Felician Sisters’ arrival in North America. As well, one of the most powerful and moving moments of the pilgrimage was the visit to Auschwitz—a time set apart for solemn reflection, prayer and remembrance.

In addition to the guided pilgrimage events, participants also had opportunities to explore the cities on their own, making personal discoveries that added depth, joy and spiritual richness to the experience.

Sr. Inga reflected, “I was amazed how all participants truly appreciated every experience and how much the sisters were moved and grateful to be able to follow in the footprints of Blessed Mary Angela in Warsaw and Krakow. All effort that we put into preparation was worth it.”

This pilgrimage was not simply a trip overseas; it was an intentional journey of faith, offered in celebration of the 150th anniversary of the Felician Sisters’ arrival in North America. “Our sisters and lay partners were filled with the Felician joy they witnessed throughout Poland,” said Sr. Marilyn.

Our prayer is that this journey continues to inspire each pilgrim to return home renewed in spirit, strengthened in faith, and more deeply connected to the mission of compassion and service that Blessed Mary Angela began.

Founded in Poland in 1855, the Felician Sisters are a congregation of women religious inspired by the spiritual ideals of their foundress, Blessed Mary Angela Truszkowska, and Saints Francis of Assisi, Clare of Assisi and Felix of Cantalice. Arriving in North America in 1874 following Blessed Mary Angela’s directive “to serve where needed,” they helped to weave the social service system. Today, the Felician Sisters founded, sponsor or support through the presence of our sisters, more than 40 ministries – all continuing to evolve to meet the needs of the people they serve.
