On June 24, Catholic sisters from nearly 50 congregations gathered at the U.S. Capitol to pray and advocate against severe budget cuts that threaten healthcare, food assistance, and social safety net programs — cuts that would harm families, children, the elderly, and disabled individuals. They also spoke out against increased funding for harsh immigration enforcement policies, including deportations without due process and family separations.
Felician Sisters Maryann Agnes Mueller, Mary Antonelle Chunka, and Dong Hong Marie Zhang participated in the event, delivering letters signed by the Felician Sisters in Chicago to Senator Tammy Duckworth’s (D–Ill.) office. They went to offices of senators from Illinois, Connecticut, and New Jersey. They joined in prayer, public witness, and advocacy for immigrants, families, and a just economy.
