The Felician Sisters of North America continue to strengthen our commitment to care for our common home, especially as we approach Earth Day on April 22.
Our convents and ministries practice ecological stewardship every day. From recycling programs to energy conservation, we care for creation together.
Reflection:
What is one action you can take today to honor God’s creation?
All of creation is a gift from the Creator God, who in Genesis declared everything “good.” As followers of St. Francis of Assisi—who recognized all creation, sun, moon and water, as our brothers and sisters—we are inspired to show gratitude to both the gift and the Creator by protecting, enjoying, praising and reverencing all of God’s creation.
St. Bonaventure, a Franciscan theologian, viewed creation as a “mirror” or a “book” reflecting the qualities of God and as a path through which the soul ascends to God.
Practical Actions for This Month:
- View this short YouTube video on The Canticle of the Creatures by St. Francis of Assisi.
- Reflect on how creation mirrors the qualities of God or serves as a path for your soul to ascend to God.
- View The Great Displacement: Climate Migration in America and learn how climate change is already causing migration and internal displacement, including within the United States.
- Pray for children worldwide, who will inherit a planet facing more extreme weather events and climate-related devastation than we experience today.
Let us take at least one intentional step this month from the Felician Sisters’ Laudato Si’ Action Plan to care for God’s creation.
