Called by God through Baptism on September 30, 1965, Sister Gabriella Maria Ianieri deepened that covenant relationship with the solemn public profession of perpetual vows on September 30, 2025, in the Immaculate Heart of Mary Convent chapel in Buffalo, NY.
The convent was filled with joy and anticipation as guests began arriving on Sunday, September 28, for Sister Gabriella’s profession. Guests came from Italy, Poland and across the province. The presence of Sister Danat Marie Brysch, minister general, Sister Judith Marie Kubicki, provincial minister, and their respective councilors added to the spirit of celebration and gratitude. The last profession in the chapel took place on June 26, 2011, when Sister Kathryn Marie Augustyniak, now candidate director for OLH Province, pronounced her perpetual vows.
On Monday evening, the sisters and guests gathered in the chapel for evening prayer to witness Sister Gabriella’s consecration to the Blessed Virgin Mary and to pray the Litany of Loretto. Following the simple ceremony, Sister Danat and Sister Judith warmly greeted the gathering.
The liturgy for perpetual vows highlighted the cultural diversity and unity of the Church and community. Honoring her heritage, Sister Gabriella included Italian songs in the celebration. The first reading was also delivered in Italian by Franco Maiorino. Rev. Msgr. Richard Siepka, presider and homilist, noted how the power of faith draws the Church together as one in Baptism. He emphasized the nature of God’s love as a gift—life-giving and sustaining—as we live out our baptismal commitment daily in humility and love, as reflected in the readings and Gospel.
The Rite of Profession immediately followed, with Sister Danat receiving Sister Gabriella’s vows. She then invited the sisters present to greet Sister Gabriella with a gesture of sisterly love.
Immediately following the liturgy, the celebration continued in the main dining room, where everyone shared in Sister Gabriella’s joy over a delightful dinner.
May the graced moment of Sister Gabriella’s clear and resolute response to God’s call, “Here I am, Lord; you called me,” continue to be a blessing that accompanies her through every season of her life.
