Earth Day at the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Convent

Montessori students discover the wonders of nature on the convent grounds in Livonia, Michigan.

Earth Day filled the front grounds of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Convent in Livonia, Michigan with children’s laughter, as 58 Montessori Center of Our Lady students ran about searching for pinecones, acorns and feathers.

The weather was beautiful, the children were excited, and smiles spread across the sisters’ faces as they helped the children find the items listed on their bags. On Earth Day especially, the convent’s woods and lawn become the perfect classroom. After the hunt, the sisters treated all the children to fruit snacks shaped like bugs, bees and butterflies.

Serving where needed since 1874

Founded in Poland in 1855, the Felician Sisters are a congregation of women religious inspired by the spiritual ideals of their foundress, Blessed Mary Angela Truszkowska, and Saints Francis of Assisi, Clare of Assisi and Felix of Cantalice. Arriving in North America in 1874 following Blessed Mary Angela’s directive “to serve where needed,” they helped to weave the social service system. Today, the Felician Sisters founded, sponsor or support through the presence of our sisters, more than 40 ministries – all continuing to evolve to meet the needs of the people they serve.
